Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start…

Sing-a-Long-a The Sound of Music made its debut at the Gay & Lesbian Film festival back in 1999 before opening at The Prince Charles Cinema, London in August of that year. The idea allegedly came from a nurse in an old people’s home in Inverness who screened Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and gave the residents song sheets so that everyone could sing along.

It then went on tour in the UK and soon after the phenomenon went global playing in North America, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Holland, Switzerland & Norway. Click here to be taken to our Worldwide pages

Other Sing-a-Long-a film titles have since been developed such as Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Rocky Horror, Hairspray, The Wizard of Oz, Grease, Dirty Dancing, Frozen, Beauty & The Beast, Moulin Rouge, The Greatest Showman and Bohemian Rhapsody.

If you have never been to a Sing-a-Long-a screening this is how it works:

Our key values are that it is Fun, Inclusive, Interactive & Celebratory & Value for Money.

The important thing about Sing-a-Long-a is that it’s completely inclusive – you join in as little or as much as you wish.

The pre-show

There is a 30 minute pre-film show during which our live host will lead you through a vocal warm up, teach you a unique set of dance moves, talk you through our free interactive prop bags and our “magic moments” and judge the fancy dress competition. You also get to practice your cheers, your boos and even a few wolf whistles.

Free interactive Props Bags

You will be handed a free interactive props bag as you enter the auditorium. This contains what we call your “Magic Moments” (specific points in the film where all of the audience will interact together using their props). During the pre-show our host will teach you how and when to use each item.

Please note we have tried our best to reduce our carbon footprint with our prop bags and use fully bio degradable plastic or paper bags where possible. We also encourage the audience to recycle any unwanted items at the end of the show.

Fancy Dress Competition

During the pre-show our host will conduct a fancy dress competition and invite adults who have dressed up onto stage to show off their creations. Sadly due to health & Safety reasons we are unable to invite children onto the stage. We will however ask them to stand up and show off their costumes and ensure they get a huge round of applause.

We encourage you to think outside the box when it comes to your costumes if you wish to stand out from the hundred of nuns, pink ladies and Freddie Mercury’s.

The interval

The interval usually lasts for 20 minutes. Most venues we play have a bar, which is often open throughout the evening (please check with the venue before arriving).
